About the stone
Kyanite is a semi-precious stone that you will rarely encounter in the typical jewellery store. Most people have not heard of kyanite, and it is infrequently used in jewellery. It is known as an "exotic" gemstone.
The name kyanite comes from the Greek word “kyanos” meaning blue. It was discovered in the nineteenth century. Nepal and Brazil are the major producers of Kyanite but it is also found in Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Kenya, India and Australia among others.
Kyanite is an excellent and extremely valuable stone that is regarded as a great heat resistor. It is commonly used in the railroad and automobile industry and is used, among other things, to make spark plugs, foundry moulds and refractory bricks, brake shoes, cutting disks, grinding wheels, bathroom fixtures and even dentures!
Kyanite is believed to be excellent for meditation. It encourages to speak ones truth, cutting through fears and blockages. It is thought to slice through confusion, illusions, anger, frustration and stress. It is also believed to strengthen the voice and heal the throat and larynx, useful for performers and public speakers.
Blue Topaz is the Birthstone for November.
Blue Topaz comes in 3 different shades; Sky Blue, London Blue and Swiss Blue. Sky Blue is a very pale blue, London Blue is a darker blue tone and Swiss Blue is the bright, electric, more vivid blue of all three and therefore the most sought after.
Blue Topaz has been used in jewellery for over 2000 years. It was once believed that Topaz would protect the wearer from dark magic. In the 12th century Saint Hildegard, a German nun, believed that Blue Topaz could cure blindness by soaking the stone in wine for 3 days and then rubbing it gently on the eyes.
Blue Topaz is a calming stone. It is thought to help with communication, creativity and the ability to express yourself. Great for writers block and to aid with public speaking. It is also thought to help with decision making, promotes concentration and helps recognize truth and wisdom.
