About the stones
Moldavite was formed around 15 million years ago when a giant meteorite hit earth in Southern Germany. It is thought to be the biggest meteorite ever to hit Europe and is estimated that it was around a 1000 meters long and weighed 500 million tonnes. Because of its size and weight, the impact of it hitting Earth was equivalent to 50000 atomic bombs! The high amounts of energy and heat meant that meteorite, surface soils and rocks melted and fused together creating Moldavite. It is found in the Czech Republic and small bits have been found in Germany and Austria. It is an incredibly rare and valuable gemstone and it is unlikely that it will ever be found anywhere else in the world. One day this crystal will become extinct.
Moldavite is thought to be good for counteracting cynicism and connects even the most world-weary adult with the wonders of the universe. It eases away doubts, even when the cause is unknown, and calms worries about money by providing solutions not previously considered. Moldavite is a powerful aid for meditation and dream-work, it increases one's sensitivity to guidance, intuition and telepathy, and the ability to understand messages sent from higher realms.
Peridot is the birthstone for August.
Peridot is a gemstone that forms deep inside the Earth. It is one of only two gems (diamond being the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by earthquakes and volcanos. In Hawaii Peridot symbolises the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanos.
Peridot has been found in some meteorites, making it one of the few gems known to exist outside our Solar System.
Peridot has been favoured since the earliest civilizations for its protective powers. First mined by the Egyptians in 1500BC they called peridot the ‘sun gem’ believing it had fallen from the sky. Pirates considered it a powerful amulet against all evil and when set in gold, it was said to protect the wearer from the terrors of the night.
Peridot is believed to be a powerful cleanser. Peridot teaches that holding on to people, or the past, is counterproductive and it helps release ‘old baggage’. It is believed to alleviate jealousy, resentment, spite and anger. Motivating growth, it helps to bring about change. Peridot sharpens the mind and opens it to new levels of awareness. It can also help to improve difficult relationships.
