About the stone
Seraphinite, also known as Serafina, Green Chlorite and Angel Stone, is a gemstone characterised by its lovely, deep forest green colour, highlighted by white strokes and feathery patterns caused by the mica mineral. Seraphinite is actually the trade name for a particular form of clinochlore, a member of the chlorite group.
Seraphinite is found mainly in Lake Baikal in Siberia, although deposits have been found in the USA, Turkey, Italy, Austria, Russia and Switzerland. As it's generally only mined in Siberia, Seraphinite is considered a rare stone and it can be challenging for shoppers to find.
The name seraphinite comes from the Greek word, seraphim, meaning a winged heavenly being or angel due to its feather-like appearance.
Seraphinite is thought to be a stone of spiritual enlightenment and is excellent for accessing self-healing. It is thought to promote living from the heart and has a gentle cleansing effect on the heart chakra opening it to love. It is believed to be useful for overcoming chills and for promoting weight loss.
Peridot is the birthstone for August.
Peridot is a gemstone that forms deep inside the Earth. It is one of only two gems (diamond being the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by earthquakes and volcanos. In Hawaii Peridot symbolises the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanos.
Peridot has been found in some meteorites, making it one of the few gems known to exist outside our Solar System.
Peridot has been favoured since the earliest civilizations for its protective powers. First mined by the Egyptians in 1500BC they called peridot the ‘sun gem’ believing it had fallen from the sky. Pirates considered it a powerful amulet against all evil and when set in gold, it was said to protect the wearer from the terrors of the night.
Peridot is believed to be a powerful cleanser. Peridot teaches that holding on to people, or the past, is counterproductive and it helps release ‘old baggage’. It is believed to alleviate jealousy, resentment, spite and anger. Motivating growth, it helps to bring about change. Peridot sharpens the mind and opens it to new levels of awareness. It can also help to improve difficult relationships.
