About the stone

Ammonite

Ammonites are probably the most well-known fossil and lived in the seas between 240-65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. The name Ammonite originates from the Greek Ram-horned god called Ammon. Ammonites are believed to have lived in shallow warm waters and moved by jet propulsion.

When Ammonites where first discovered they were thought to be snakes that had been turned into stone with their heads cut off. In order to perpetuate the legend, local collectors and dealers in fossils frequently carved heads on them. Used as charms, Ammonites were thought to be a protection against serpents, and a cure for baldness and infertility.

Blue Topaz

Blue Topaz is the Birthstone for November.

Blue Topaz has been used in jewellery for over 2000 years. It was once believed that Topaz would protect the wearer from dark magic. In the 12th century Saint Hildegard, a German nun, believed that Blue Topaz could cure blindness by soaking the stone in wine for 3 days and then rubbing it gently on the eyes.

Blue Topaz is a calming stone. It is thought to help with communication, creativity and the ability to express yourself. Great for writers block and to aid with public speaking. It is also thought to help with decision making, promotes concentration and helps recognize truth and wisdom.
