About the stones
Charoite
A fairly “new” stone, Charoite was reportedly discovered in the 1940s but was not known to most of the world until its description in 1978. It is said to be opaque and unattractive when found, a fact that may have contributed to its late recognition.
Named after the Chara River, Charoite is only found in one place, a small deposit near the Chara River, close to the small town of Aldan, in Siberia, Russia.
Due to its unusual appearance its often mistaken for a synthetic gem, a forgivable assumption to make as the swirling and dappled violet to lavender patterns make it look like these patterns have been painted on, but they haven’t, this is a completely natural gemstone.
Charoite is known as the stone of transformation. It is believed to help overcome fears and is particularly useful for overcoming resistance or putting things into perspective. It bestows drive, vigour and spontaneity and is able to reduce stress and worry. It can be used to overcome compulsions and obsessions and is a very calming stone.
Amethyst
Amethyst is the Birthstone for February and also the Horoscope stone for Pisces.
Amethyst comes from the Greek word “amethystos” translated as “not drunken” as it was believed to be a strong antidote for drunkenness. Wine goblets were often carved from the stone.
In the English Middle Ages, it was considered a symbol of royalty and used to decorate English regalia. Until the 18th century it was one of the most valuable stones along with diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald.
Amethyst is thought of as a protective stone and helps purify the mind and clear negative thoughts. It also helps with stress and anxiety and is a very calming stone.
